Your skin can get very dry in the winter and it can make it chap. It will feel rough and itchy. Did you know that dehydration can kill you? It can if it gets really bad because it can take your strength away from you which can make you feel very weak. People that are older and children can get dehydrated more easily because it can hit them faster and harder. Dehydration happens every winter and people often go into the hospital because of it. Dehydration can be caused when you have diarrhea and vomiting from stomach ailments and fever. Very high fevers can cause dehydration quickly. When people get really sick sometimes they do not want to eat or drink much or at all. There are signs that you can tell you or someone in your family is dehydrated by symptoms that they show. When someone in the family is suffering from a stomach virus, the flu or a cold or almost any other sickness, you should try to ensure that they drink as much fluids as possible and water can be the best thing to give them. Fatigue, aching muscles, weakness, headaches, and infrequent urination, and dry skin and lips are some signs of dehydration. If dehydration gets really bad, you have to be given fluid intravenously at the hospital because fluids have to be put in the body one way or another. You can be in the hospital for days depending on how badly you are dehydrated. To prevent dehydration, you need to drink eight glasses of water a day and another way is to eat a lot of fruits and even vegetables. People also get dehydrated in the summer time because they will do outdoor activities that cause their bodies to use water faster. Sometimes we simply fail to pay attention to mount of water we are losing and the amount we are replacing. Did you know alcoholic beverages will increase the risk of getting dehydrated? Sporting activities or just lying in the sun can deplete the reserves of water in your body because of the heat. Always drink plenty of water when you are outside and it is hot even if you are not moving around a lot. Keep a bottle of water around and sip on it frequently. Avoid drinking a large quantity of water at one time. Drinking plenty of water can help you avoid dehydration and even be helpful to prevent a heat stroke. Children and the elderly should be paid special attention when outside in the heat.
