The game known as Association Football, which is otherwise known as soccer, or just plain football, is the game with the most international support. The USA have their own national game called football or American football which is quite different. However, they do play soccer as well, but lacking the fervor they attach to their national style. A great deal of endeavor has been used to develop the global game in their country, so far they haven't proved to be all that successful, but it would be marvelous if they joined their South American neighbors. Although soccer has humble beginnings, the game is more intricate than a newcomer may think. Basically a soccer game comprises of eleven members who contest against one another on a pitch, measuring around 90 meters long x 45 meters wide. The objective is to score goals with any part of the body but not the hands, but generally the feet or the head. Opposing teams comprise of defenders, midfielders, and attackers. A special kind of defender is known as the goalkeeper, who may use his hands and arms to save goals. This wide appeal of football is the outcome, not just from spectators flooding into enormous sports grounds through the ticket points, but also from television coverage, where vast sums are paid for the financial benefit of broadcasting matches. Since 1930 the most significant trophy, the world cup, has been won in approximately equivalent measure by South American and European national teams. International football is a a gigantic enterprise. From turnstile receipts, to television rights, sponsorships, to replica football gear, a major industry has been created. Little boys and grown men, and some women and girls, want to wear the shirts of their favourite clubs or players. They dribble a ball around in playgrounds, wasteland, and even quiet streets. Sport in general, and football in particular, has gone a long way down the path of improving international understanding. It is reported that there are some teams, in the English Premier League, that have picked teams wholly consisting of overseas footballers. The main thing for the vast majority of fans, isn't the color of a players skin, but his skill. The better a footballer turns out to be, the more desirable he is to major clubs. Thankfully great players are continuing to appear from many countries. Currently, there is a lot of disapproval, regarding children not getting an appropriate amount of bodily exercise. Thank goodness then, that for many children, some form of football is still very popular. Very few will finish up earning a living as professional footballers, but a vast number will carry on with their interest, as fans. Enthusiasts, everywhere will be able to track the advancement of their favorites, and be in awe of the skill of the fortunate few players, who are endowed with the chance of achieving the past objectives of them all.
