This article is focused on helping you buy used backhoe equipment. Backhoe equipment can be found on any construction site. The backhoe is a hydraulic-powered digging scoop on a three-jointed arm, designed to dig through hard earth. Backhoes are used to dig and refill holes and trenches. The backhoe equipment features three parts. The tractor is the main one. Then comes the loader. The loader is a big rectangular device which scoops up the material. Backhoe loaders combine power, small size, two widely used tools, so it's a really flexible piece of machinery making it really useful for all types of construction firms. Backhoes can be categorized as a middle-range type of digging and loading equipment, much cheaper than full-size excavators, yet powerful and compact. The new backhoe loaders have electronics to ease the work of the operator, while the whole machine is powered by hydraulics. Different attachments can be installed on the backhoe. New backhoe equipment certainly doesn't come cheap as the cost for a 14' digging depth backhoe ranges from $55,000 to $75,000, so it's a better idea to rent backhoe equipment if you have just one job and not planning to make full use out of it. The good thing about backhoe equipment is that it's transportable. The only problem is the shortage of skillful operators available for hire. One topic that is rarely discussed is used backhoe equipment. The problem here is that there isn't much information available and when you want to study that market, you have to get very creative and assumptions have to be made. The most typical method of selling used equipment is though the dealer networks of the major OEMs, most of which are independent companies representing the manufacturers. Customers buy new machines and often trade older, used machines as a part of the deal. In the machinery world, OEM dealers are usually confined to their respective territories, which may be defined by state lines or certain portions of states where more than one dealer representative may operate. Caterpillar, for example, has a dealer network in North America that includes perhaps 45 to 50 dealers and an estimated 400-plus branch locations. These dealers have specific territories where they sell machines, both new and used. Independent used equipment dealers with no OEM affiliation also get involved in selling used machines. There are a large number of these dealers (perhaps several hundred) throughout North America who have inventories of used machines for sale that they have acquired in the marketplace or through consignments. The number of these dealers is not known exactly, but there are probably 20 to 30 that deal internationally and sell machines on a national basis, advertising nationally and operating with no boundaries. The biggest used equipment markets in the US comprise of excavators, wheel loaders, dozers, backhoe loaders and skid-steer loaders.
