Finding your life's purpose early is the best thing you can do for yourself. When Steven E was 21 years old, he heard an inner voice telling him to write a book. The voice was so strong, it awakened him from his sleep. He wrote a book, and he knew right from the start it would sell millions. Now he publishes books, has CDs and scheduled speaking engagements.

When you find your purpose in life, Steven E believes people will start showing up in your life in a magical sort of way to help you live that purpose. He helps others in order to help himself. He first did this by asking 55 people to contribute to a book. He helped all of them get published while at the same time getting himself published. He calls this "team publishing."

Team publishing is similar to opening a coffee shop with investors. When investors put money into your coffee shop, they'll be sure to invite everyone they know to the grand opening. They want the business to succeed because they've got a vested interest in it. If several people co-write a book, they'll all send copies to their family and friends to get the word out. Soon everyone will be buying the book.

The key to helping yourself, Steven E says, is to help others first. When Steven introduces himself, he doesn't say, "Can you do this for me?" He says, "Hi. I'm Steven. How can I help you?" Offering help to someone breaks the ice in a conversation. People can ask you who you are and what you do, and in turn, they can ask for help.

When you find out what others need, helping them will form a bond with them. They will refer you to all of their contacts and help you get noticed by jointly setting up speaking engagements, book publishing, and so on. This type of marketing can even be seen in the small business world. Perhaps you're a massage therapist? Offer your services to people free of charge. They will tell all of their friends about you, and you'll soon have more clients.

If you plan to publish a book, be aware that major publishers only pick up major authors. It's rare to see an unknown rise to the top of a major publishing company. Steven E says you'll almost always have to self-publish. You're going to need to figure out your own marketing strategy, and his advice is to start small with a business card approach. If you hand out a business card, you're just another face in the crowd. If you hand out a book, you're an "expert."

Handing out books helps you establish a residual income. People would much rather talk about books than business cards. One of the best ways to get your name noticed by the masses is to get published along side a big name author. You'll have instant credibility and instant sales. You're adding to someone else's book to help them get published, and in turn, you're getting free advertising and credibility.
