Weather has come a long way How much time do you spend considering the weather? If you spend any amount of time outdoors, you probably spend enough time outside to appreciate recent advancements in accessing and interpreting weather reports. You can just get online and get information from a weather forecast service to enable you to make your plans for the weekend or find out if you should even be leaving the house. You can get even more information than just your weather forecast as well. You can access trends in average high and low temperatures, the average humidity, sky cover, and all sorts of radar images and graphics to help you understand the areas that you are considering visiting or planning to host events. A weather report means different things to different people. If you are a golfer, you may be trying to find a weather forecast that will tell you how likely it is that you will be able to take in eighteen holes on Saturday, or what the average wind speeds and directions are in a particular club's region. For a gardener, you may be looking to your weather forecast service to tell you if you will be able to transplant your seedlings from the indoor starting tray to their outdoor homes for the warmer months, and you may need to know if the transplanting will be this weekend, of if it will be rained out and planned for mid week. The hiker may be doing some research on new trails before scouting out the locations to be aware of the gear that he or she needs, and if the weather report is calling for them to suit up for extreme conditions. This seems like a short list, but it goes on and on, the weather forecast service gives a weather forecast that is heard by many. The weather report governs so many of our activities every day, and regional weather trends define the nature of our visits from location to location. You would not choose a site for an outdoor wedding if it is prone to heavy tropical storms in the month of your special day, would you? And if your hobby is sailboats or surfing, you'll want to know the changing of the tides and the wind speeds and wave heights. How did we ever get along with our outdoor activities before we had a weather forecast by which to plan? Lore used to provide us with most of the answers we sought for weather conditions and predictions for more years than can be counted, but today all we need to do is log on and take a look. The ease of knowing what you need to prepare for in the forecast is something that is under appreciated, because it plays a role in most of what we do every day. Can you imagine the difference it may have made in several historic events if they had simply been able to conjure up a weather report or some trend analysis for a region?
