Sony Ericsson are on a mission: to make touchscreen smartphones what everyone associates with the phrase mobile phones. And in the world of touchscreen mobile phones, Sony Ericsson have no equal! The First Wave: Sony Ericsson G900 - touchscreens for the masses Phones with touchscreens have always been a key part part of Sony Ericsson's smartphone roster, going all the way back in time to the old P800. Back then, it was considered a bit niche, though, and didn't really take off with the average user. But now, Sony Ericsson aim to change that, with the cool Sony Ericsson G900. Powered by a brand new version of Symbian UIQ, the Sony Ericsson G900 pack in all the cool features from previous smartphones, but ties them all together in a new smaller, sleeker body. So, you get 5 megapixel camera, you get superb media playback, and you get the full power of Symbian UIQ at your fingertips. Literally, as it's now optimised for touch control. iPhone look out! Sony Ericsson are coming for you! Sony Ericsson have always said that the G-Series of mobile phones is designed to be full of mid-range entries, and if they can get UIQ into a strong position in that market, they win. After all, let's remember that they own the majority stake in UIQ! The Future and Beyond: Sony Ericsson Paris and an unnamed superphone! Ok, so the G-Series has the middle ground in the bag for Sony Ericsson, but what about the top-end? What will happen in the area Sony Ericsson have previously placed their smartphones? Well, for starters, there's another new UIQ mobile phone due to be announced, and although it doesn't have an official name yet, its being speculated that it will sit right at the top-end of the G-Series. It's known only by its codename, Sony Ericsson Paris. To be honest, it's not massively different in spec from the G900. It does, though, have a couple of features on top of the G900, most notably a full QWERTY keyboard, and built-in sat-nav. Ok, if I'm honest, that's probably going to be my next mobile phone. After that, though, Sony Ericsson have something special planned. It doesn't have an official model number yet. Hell, it doesn't even have a codename, yet. But it's been spotted in a product video by Sony Ericsson, and there's only one hyphenated word to describe it: iPhone-Killer. It looks set to be the king of mobile phones, with a HUGE screen, god knows how many megapixels in the camera, more multimedia options that Disney, and internet access fast enough to rival mobile broadband on a laptop. In short, it could very well be the single best mobile phone ever made! And yes, before you ask, I want one, really rather badly...
