Keep in mind these next few tips when you're designing a web site. Upper Left Handside Corner Always place your logo on the upper left hand corner because people are conditioned to read for left to right, top to bottom. Naturally, this is where people would look first. This is the primary reason why Microsoft applications have the file command in the upper left corner; it is the most commonly looked at space. Because people will always first look at that space, you must put there what is most valuable - your logo. Links Another web design tip is to make your links bigger. This means making your links consist of more than one word and making your cascading menu options farther apart from each other. More Above The Fold Regarding newspapers, above the fold refers to the stories that are above the crease the newspapers make so they will fit in newspaper vending machines. The story above the fold is what gets a person's attention while walking down the street. The same applies to web design, only above the fold means the portion of the screen that the user can see without scrolling. Our third web design tip is to put the more valuable information above the web design fold because it gets seen more often than information below it. Separate Layout From Interface Before you start building your homepage, your most important page, you should look at several layout options. Make tentative builds for graphic layouts and place them in a powerpoint slide because this will make it easier with browsing. Worry about the interface after having chosen a graphics layout/theme.
